Today is a good day...

Got my DVR fixed already, REALLY enjoying "Mastering NL Hold'em", my Reds are going for their 10th straight win on the road, the Cowboys first preseason game is on TV tonight, and I'm doing absolutely nothing to contribute to society. Kinda nice to have a complete and total lazy day, ya know. Haven't gotten around to playing "Rome" today, but I have all night after the Cowboy game.

Updated my profile, somewhat, for those that care. Also included a wishlist from Amazon.com in case any of you feel giving (ok, I did that just cause it was there, but hey, I wouldn't argue ). Read a pretty funny, yet fairly spot-on, quote today from one of the other blogs that I frequent, "Proving that if you put a million monkeys in front of a million computers eventually 65,000 of them will log on to Party Poker."

Btw, people, feel free to ask questions, make requests etc. I am curious as to what you folks want to read about. If you're gonna spend the time to drop by and read, you might as well have some input, right?

Some light reading...

So, here I am, itching to play again ;) But, I made a promise to myself that I would take a break from playing cards, save for Sunday's big tourney, and get my mind right for when I do play poker again. So what have I been doing? Well, I've been watching a lot of my beloved Cincinnati Reds winning, which has been a welcome surprise. But, thanks to my DVR crapping out tonight, I won't be able to tape any more games to watch when I get home from work. This is now DVR #2 that has gone to that big recording in the sky w/i the last 2 months. This is getting old. So, until I get it replaced, early next week, I guess I'll have to watch them the old fashion way, and watch them live. How odd that will be ;) Been playing more videogames of late as well. I tried out NCAA 2006 on the PS2. Fun game, but just isn't holding my attention like I would have hoped. Been reading up on upcoming videogames...I am VERY excited about a little game called Indigo Prophecy. Very unique idea behind it that is more movie than videogame. Should be fun to play the hunter AND the hunted. Still waiting for The Fall to come out...been waiting over a year now for the English version. :argh: Also, I am thinking of getting back into one of my favorite games on the PC tomorrow Rome: Total War. Only click that link if you are single, want to be single, or have WAY WAY WAY too much time on your hands. Yes, it's that good. Ok, enough about the gaming...for those that know me, you know that I love to read. Everything from Homer's Iliad and Odyssey (favorite story of all time) to Huck Finn. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, to anything from Stephen King. Oh yeah, and most anything on poker too. Novel, I know. Get it? Novel....ah nevermind. Hey it's 430am and I thought it was funny. Point of this lil tangent is to say that I just recently ordered and received 2 books that I am very much looking forward to reading, both about poker, one of which I would consider "bedside" reading and the other is a "work" book. Both of which come highly recommended. So, after reading,. "Theory of Poker", "Tao of Poker", and "Beyond Tells" all in the last 2 months, I am about to sink my teeth into Mastering No-Limit Hold'em which I have been reading great things about and also, it focuses on the types of games that I'll mainly be playing when in Vegas (capped buy-in No Limit Texas Hold'em). This I should have read by the end of next week. Anyone care to read a review when I'm finished with it? The other book, my "bedside reading" poker book should be a fun one, Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King, The : Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time . Been looking forward to reading this for some time now. It's the story of the biggest cash game ever held. It's a group of well-known pros pooling their money together and taking turns playing, heads-up, against one of the richest guys around, a Texas banker named Andy Beal. From what I have heard, it takes you into the matches and really puts you "in" the game. I am hoping it's as good as I hear it is. So that's it for now. I am cautiously awaiting Sunday afternoon. I think my original estimate of 500 may have been a little too low. The entries have spiked to 418 as of my writing this. At least the more that enter, the more spots that get paid. Sure it lowers the amounts, but for a $6 investment, $1,250 is still a solid return. But I still very much want to win this damn thing! No, check that. I WILL win this thing. Gotta believe I can to have a chance, right? One last bit...for those that don't know that much about me, I'll be updating my bio soon so that you can all get to know me. And, to be honest, I'm surprised at the amount of hits I'm getting in here. Kind of fun, actually:)

What can $120,000 buy?

Well, after a completely forgettable weekend, I have decided to take a mini-break and strictly focus on my first "BIG" tournament: Party Poker's $500,000 guaranteed tournament this upcoming Sunday. I bit the bullet and ponied up the $6 that it took for me to enter a satellite tournament, which, if I won, would get me a seat into a $44 tournament, which, if I won, would get me a $385 seat into the big tourney. So, I went ahead and won both satellites and have my seat awaiting me come Sunday, August 14th. While it's not a huge payout, such as you see in the WSOP, first place should pay @ $120k. That would expedite things a touch.

Last I saw, there were about 281 entrants in it. While all realistic expectations do not have me winning it, I do think I have a solid shot at placing in the money. I'm anticipating @ 500 in this thing, and if so, about the top 50 pay. 50th would cash about $1250. Sure, that would be a solid return for $6, I am thinking bigger. Like add two zeros to that :)

So, to all my loyal followers, all 2 of you, here's to hoping I remember how to play this game and hey, maybe luck can fall my way for a change.
